WAS OBAMA ‘TALKING WHITE?’
Perennial presidential party-pooper Ralph Nader is like that one distant relation who can always be counted upon to come to a function and ruin everyone’s good time. He’s a spoiler, in the strictest sense of the word. So when Nader suggested that Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign was taking a more populous approach to dealing with the issue, he couldn’t just have left it there. No, Nader put his foot all the way in his mouth.
"I haven’t heard him have a strong crackdown on economic exploitation in the ghettos," Nader said to the Rocky Mountain News. "Payday loans, predatory lending, asbestos, lead. What’s keeping him from doing that? Is it because he wants to talk white? He doesn’t want to appear like Jesse Jackson? We’ll see all that play out in the next few months and if he gets elected afterwards." It’s hard to tell if Nader is suggesting black people should just address black issues or trying to bring up the question of Obama’s "blackness" again. Either way, he takes a loss. Nader proves time and time again that he is only mildly acquainted with the real world and our ritual of electing officials and reveals himself to be out of touch and off his rocker. He only ever wakes up long enough to make some completely mis-informed comment about politics, then nods back to sleep. Obama’s campaign is gently moving his message towards the center, but that doesn’t mean he’s "talking white." It means he’s solidifying his base by taking concrete positions on a wide spectrum of matters.
Sad, that some can only see politics in black or white.
Was Obama ‘talking white?’ Hardly but what do you think? Tell us here.
