2008 GRAMMY NOMINEE’S

Somewhere Alicia Keys must be cussing someone out. The whole point of her dive into a more pop-leaning sound was an obvious attempt to secure an Album of the Year nod for As I Am. I tend to add another S to the title, and from the looks of it, so did the nominating committee.

Though she secured a few nominations, none were in the bigger categories she’s grown accustomed to being honored in. So who took her place in the biggest category this year? Lil’ Wayne and Ne-Yo. Yeah, I don’t get it either, but congrats to them.

Similar congrats go out to Jazmine Sullivan, who scored a number of nominations including one for Best New Artist. Hopefully now Clive finally gets her more than $7 to make a video.

Same for Janelle Monet, whom I pray Puff Puff Diddy gives a chance.

Here’s a run-down of all the nominees in the categories you likely only care about.

Best Male R&B Vocal Performance
Eric Benét, You’re the Only One
Chris Brown, Take You Down

I didn’t know half of these people were still alive, but good luck to them. And if you’re wondering, no, I don’t know why a five-year old song from Beyonce got nominated. Anything to get her there, I suppose.

SPIKE LEE WANTS TO MAKE A NEW SCHOOL DAZE

THE FACTS
SOHH reports that Spike Lee’s would-be sequel to School Daze has been put on halt due to lack of funding.

THE SPIN
Spike wants to take us back to school. The script has been drafted, but all he needs is someone to fund it. Here’s what Spike had to say about the idea to re-visit his acclaimed film, School Daze: “The film takes place at the same college but 25 years later, but the powers that be didn’t want to tell that story. It was gonna have Kanye in it and Alicia Keys.”

So two music artists dancing around 30 were set to play college students? There weren’t any trained actors of a realistic age lying around?

Most people love Spike, and I’m no different, but does a sequel to School Daze 2 starring Kanye West and Alicia Keys sound appealing to you? If so, maybe you should start a fund to get the project going, because Hollywood gave the film idea the side-eye.

Your Spin:  Who would you cast in School Daze 2?  Tell us here.
