C-MURDER SEEKS TRIAL DELAY

THE FACTS
The Times-Picayune reports that C-Murder wants his murder trial postponed because he believes the judge is using his case for political gain.

THE SPIN
C-Murder was charged with the January 12, 2002 shooting death of 16-year-old Steve Thomas inside of Club Platinum, a now defunct nightclub in Louisiana. Judge Martha Sassone – the presiding judge of the trial – is facing a tough re-election bid as a result of her ruling that a new trial be granted. Although Corey ‘C-Murder’ Miller was convicted in 2003, the judge allowed a new trial after it was revealed that witnesses in the case had their criminal records expunged in exchange for their testimony. Jury selection was set to begin last week, but because Sassone’s opponent alleges that she is being soft on crime as a result of her ruling in Miller’s case, defense attorney Ron Rakosky asks that a new trial be set “at the earliest available date” after the Nov. 4 runoff.

I guess if I were facing a life of fear of a dropped soap bar I would use every opportunity to postpone the inevitable, too.
