QUEEN LATIFAH DOESN’T CARE WHAT YOU THINK

THE FACTS
In her interview with the New York Times magazine Queen Latifah said she doesn’t care if people think she’s straight or gay.

THE SPIN
Despite Latifah telling the public that she’s not going to answer questions that dive into her personal life, interviewers keep trying to dig into her business anyway. She still won’t bend, though; in fact she is as determined as ever to keep her business just that.

When asked about homosexuality (yet again), the Queen told the New York Times magazine:  “I don’t have a problem discussing the topic of somebody being gay, but I do have a problem discussing my personal life. You don’t get that part of me. Sorry. We’re not discussing it in our meetings, we’re not discussing it at Cover Girl…nobody gets that. I don’t feel like I need to share my personal life, and I don’t care if people think I’m gay or not. Assume whatever you want. You do it anyway.”

This debate about Latifah’s sexuality may be good gossip, but it’s old news. And you know what, she’s completely right that it’s none of our business.

QUEEN LATIFAH TALKS WEIGHT LOSS

THE FACTS
Queen Latifah has discussed her participation in the Jenny Craig weight loss program.

THE SPIN
Not everyone is meant to be skinny, but according to Queen Latifah, that doesn’t mean one can’t drop a few pounds to get a little healthier. When she decided to join Jenny Craig, the Queen says she set a goal for herself to lose 5 to 10 percent of her body weight and keep it off.

Gossip blog Hollyscoop quotes the now trimmer Cover Girl saying, “For me, it’s not about a body image thing. I feel pretty confident. I do realize I’m a role model to a lot of people, and I’ve been a role model for confidence. I feel being a healthier person is a good thing. If I can set the example for confidence on the inside, why not set it for confidence on the outside as well?”

I love her and I love that she’s doing it for health reasons. Again, some people should accept their plus-and-proud status and not become a walking skeleton with extra skin. If you think that’s a shot at a former morning talk show host, you’re right.
